What is Windows Live Mail?

Windows Live Mail is an email application created by Microsoft that can be configured to manage multiple email account types. It is a successor to Outlook Express (Windows XP) and Windows Mail (Windows Vista).

Before you start

Before you start setting up your TalkTalk email in Windows Live Mail, please ensure that you:

• Have a TalkTalk email account - if you don't, please see: How do I create a TalkTalk email address?
• Have Windows Live Mail installed on your computer
• Are connected to the internet

Setting up your TalkTalk email account in Windows Live Mail

To set up your TalkTalk email account in Windows Live Mail, follow these steps:

1. Click the Start globe in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen, and then select All Programs and Windows Live.
2. Select Windows Live Mail and wait for Windows Mail to start the setup process.
   Note: If this is your first time using Windows Live Mail, you can jump straight to step 4. If you have previously used Windows Live Mail you may have to click Add e-mail account to start setting up your email account details.
   
   
3. Enter your TalkTalk email address into the E-Mail address box.
   Note: Your TalkTalk email address ends with @talktalk.net, for example, emailaddress@talktalk.net. Please ensure that you don't enter any spaces and that the email address is exactly as you created it.
4. Enter the password for your TalkTalk email account into the Password box and tick the Remember password box.
5. Enter a name into the Display Name box.
   Note: This is the name that the recipient will see when you send them an email.
6. Tick the Manually configure server settings for e-mail account box and click Next.
   
   
7. Set the Incoming mail server type to POP3 using the drop-down list.
8. Type mail.talktalk.net into the Incoming server box.
9. Enter your TalkTalk email address into the Login ID box.
   Note: This is the same email address that you entered in step 3 above. Please ensure that you don't enter any spaces and that the email address is exactly as you created it.
10. Type smtp.talktalk.net into the Outgoing server (SMTP) box and click Next.
    
    
11. You will be informed that you have successfully entered the details to set up your email account. Click Finish.
    
    

Your email account is now set up. To check if it's working correctly, send yourself an email and see it if arrives.
